Weather Updates:
- Freeze protection services are currently active in Canada, and the Northern half of the United States, East of the Rocky Mountains. For shipments containing freezable freight, please ensure freeze protection is added. Note that this may result in additional charges and possible transit delays.
- The Atlantic hurricane season officially ended on November 30, with no hurricanes making landfall in the United States. While the season is over, it’s still possible for a storm to form outside the typical season timeframe.
Small Parcel Updates:
- UPS Christmas Cutoffs: The busiest parcel shipping season is starting and to ensure UPS packages arrive by Christmas in 2025, ship by December 19 for 3 Day Select, December 22 for 2nd Day Air, and December 23 for Next Day Air; Ground service deadline varies by location and should be verified for your shipping route.
LTL Updates:
- Holiday Transit Times: During the holiday seasons in LTL, one thing is consistent: transit times slow down as freight surges, winter weather hits, and terminals run on shortened holiday schedules. Shippers remember to build in extra days and expect more variability in delivery performance during the tight window between Thanksgiving and late December.
- Diesel Rates: National diesel prices fell by $0.073 from last week, averaging $3.758 per gallon, $0.218 higher than the same time last year. The Lower Atlantic region experienced the largest decrease, down $0.102 to $3.687 per gallon.
TL Updates:
- Market Activity: Spot load posts were down 46.2% from last week, and spot truck posts decreased by 26.8%, primarily due to the Thanksgiving holiday. The Load-to-Truck Ratio (LTR) was down for vans, flatbeds and reefers.
- Outbound Tender Rejection Index (OTRI): The OTRI followed the usual pattern of post-holiday retreats this week, with all modes declining. The OTRI currently sits at 6.33, down from last week’s 6.79.
- Dry Van: National van demand decreased by 19.9% to a 5.13-1 LTR nationally, with the highest demand spread across most the United States, other than CA, IL, MI, NE, NH, OK and TN, exceeding 5.5+ to 1 LTR. The spot rate per mile (RPM) for dry vans is up $0.06 from November, averaging $2.15 nationally, with the Midwest holding the highest RPM at $2.29. VOTRI dipped slightly this week. The VOTRI is at 6.15, down from last week’s value of 6.35.
- Flatbed: National flatbed demand decreased by 32.2% to a 15.03-1 LTR, with the highest demand in the Northwest, the Southeast, Central New England, MN, MT, SD and WV at over 18+ to 1 LTR. The flatbed spot RPM is up $0.03 from November, averaging $2.50 nationally, with the Southeast holding the highest RPM at $2.61. FOTRI decreased by nearly 1.5 points on the week. The FOTRI jumped to 12.33, up from last week’s value of 13.75.
- Reefer: National reefer demand decreased by 31.6% to a 8.41-1 LTR nationally, with the highest demand in the Midwest and Western states other than UT, AR IA, IN, MS, WI at over 12+ to 1 LTR. The spot RPM for reefers is down $0.03 from November, averaging $2.50 nationally, with the highest rates in the Midwest at $2.88. ROTRI showed the steepest declines this week. The ROTRI currently sits at 14.32, down over two full points compared to last week’s value of 15.58.
International Updates:
- FBX Trends: Container rates were all down from last week with the average cost of an FBX01 container down 10% to $1,715, and the FBX global container average decreasing 7% to $1,800. The FBX03 decreased 17% from last week to $2,863.
- Port of LA: The port reported an 8.77% YOY volume decrease from 19 scheduled vessels during the week of November 30, 2025. For the week of December 7, volume is projected to increase 7.11% YOY from 22 scheduled vessels moving 113,076 TEUs.
