Market Update 10.30.25

Weather Updates:

  • Freeze protection services are active in AK, CO, ID, MT, NE and WY. For shipments containing freezable freight, freeze protection services should be added. Please note that this may result in additional charges and potential transit delays.
  • Currently there are no other potential risks of severe weather and no impacts to transit times or carriers expected over the weekend.

Small Parcel Updates:

  • Canada Post Issues: Canada Post continues to operate under nationwide rotating strikes, causing minor delivery delays and keeping all service guarantees suspended. The dispute remains unresolved, with additional federal committee hearings scheduled this week to address ongoing issues between Canada Post and the union.

LTL Updates:

  • Diesel Rates: National diesel prices increased by $0.098 from last week, averaging $3.718 per gallon, which is $0.145 higher than last year. The New England region was the only market to decrease, down $0.010 from last week to $3.933 per gallon.

TL Updates:

  • Market Activity: Spot load posts are up 3.0% from last week, and spot truck posts decreased by 0.6%. The Load-to-Truck Ratio (LTR) was down for flatbeds while up for vans and reefers.
  • Outbound Tender Rejection Index (OTRI): The OTRI has stabilized, with Flatbed and Van showing decreases to offset Reefer’s rapid rise. The OTRI currently sits at 6.07, down from last week’s 6.11.
  • ‌Dry Van: National van demand increased by 4.5% to a 6.03-1 LTR nationally, with the highest demand spread across most the United States, other than CA, IL, MI, NE and the Southeastern States, exceeding 5.5+ to 1 LTR. The spot rate per mile (RPM) for dry vans is up $0.02 from September, averaging $2.07 nationally, with the Midwest holding the highest RPM at $2.26. VOTRI is showing signs of regression.  The VOTRI is at 5.46, up from last week’s value of 5.71.
  • Flatbed: National flatbed demand decreased by 5.7% to a 23.11-1 LTR, with the highest demand in the West, the Southeastern States, parts of New England, IN, MT, SD, and WY at over 18+ to 1 LTR. The flatbed spot RPM is up $0.01 from September, averaging $2.52 nationally, with the Southeast holding the highest RPM at $2.71. FOTRI saw a small decrease this week but has been relatively stable for back-to-back weeks.  The FOTRI dipped to 10.46, down from last week’s value of 10.92.
  • ‌Reefer: National reefer demand increased by 11.1% to a 12.26-1 LTR nationally, with the highest demand in the Midwest and Western states, AR, CO, IN, ME, MI, MT, NM and lower New England at over 12+ to 1 LTR. The spot RPM for reefers is up $0.04 from September, averaging $2.48 nationally, with the highest rates in the Midwest at $2.83. ROTRI continues to climb rapidly. The ROTRI currently sits at 16.47 compared to last week’s value of 15.36.

International Updates:

  • FBX Trends: Container rates were up from last week with the average cost of an FBX01 container up 20% to $2,027, and the FBX global container average increased 13% to $1,872. The FBX03 increased 14% from last week to $3,500.
  • Port of LA: The port reported a 12.91% YOY volume increase from 17 scheduled vessels during the week of October 26, 2025. For the week of November 2, volume is projected to decrease 0.23% YOY, with 15 scheduled vessels moving 99,315 TEUs.
