Market Update 11.20.25

Weather Updates: 

  • Freeze protection services are currently active in Alaska, Northern Canada, and parts of New Hampshire, Maine, New York, and Vermont. For shipments containing freezable freight, please ensure freeze protection is added. Note that this may result in additional charges and possible transit delays. 
  • There are currently no significant severe weather risks, and no transit time or carrier impacts are expected over the weekend. 

Small Parcel Updates: 

  • Canada Post Issues: Canada Post reported operating losses topping $1 billion for the year, with rotating strikes and failed contract talks amplifying disruption and driving business to competitors. Federal mediated negotiations continue while businesses brace for more delivery delays heading into the holiday season. 
  • UPS Christmas Cutoffs: The busiest parcel shipping season is starting and to ensure UPS packages arrive by Christmas in 2025, ship by December 19 for 3 Day Select, December 22 for 2nd Day Air, and December 23 for Next Day Air; Ground service deadline varies by location and should be verified for your shipping route. 

LTL Updates: 

  • Diesel Rates: National diesel prices rose by $0.031 from last week, averaging $3.868 per gallon, $0.377 higher than the same time last year. The New England region experienced the largest increase, up $0.066 to $4.021 per gallon. 

TL Updates: 

  • Market Activity: Spot load posts are up 9.1% from last week, and spot truck posts increased by 18.3%. The Load-to-Truck Ratio (LTR) was down for vans, flatbeds and reefers. 
  • Outbound Tender Rejection Index (OTRI): The OTRI, beginning to reflect data for the upcoming Thanksgiving weekend, saw gains in the van and flatbed markets, while reefer decreased. The OTRI currently sits at 6.15, up from last week’s 6.02. 
  • ‌Dry Van: National van demand decreased by 6.7% to a 5.16-1 LTR nationally, with the highest demand spread across most the United States, other than CA, IL, MI, NE, NH, OK and TN, exceeding 5.5+ to 1 LTR. The spot rate per mile (RPM) for dry vans is up $0.02 from October, averaging $2.08 nationally, with the Midwest holding the highest RPM at $2.27. VOTRI jumped by over one quarter of a point.  The VOTRI is at 5.86, up from last week’s value of 5.54. 
  • ‌Flatbed: National flatbed demand decreased by 14.7% to a 17.59-1 LTR, with the highest demand in the Northwest, the Southeast, Upper New England, IN, MN, MT and SD at over 18+ to 1 LTR. The flatbed spot RPM is down $0.03 from October, averaging $2.48 nationally, with the Southeast holding the highest RPM at $2.63. FOTRI saw the largest increase on the week.  The FOTRI jumped to 13.13, up from last week’s value of 10.22.   
  • ‌‌Reefer: National reefer demand decreased by 0.1% to a 11.36-1 LTR nationally, with the highest demand in the Midwest and Northwestern states, AR, CO, IN, ME, MI, MS, MT, NM, WV and lower New England at over 12+ to 1 LTR. The spot RPM for reefers is up $0.04 from October, averaging $2.52 nationally, with the highest rates in the Midwest at $2.88. ROTRI continued its rapid decline. The ROTRI currently sits at 13.59, down 1.5 points compared to last week’s value of 15.18.   

International Updates: 

  • FBX Trends: Container rates were up and down from last week again with the average cost of an FBX01 container down 6% to $2,793, and the FBX global container average decreased 1% to $2,172. The FBX03 increased 6% from last week to $3,734.  
  • Port of LA: The port reported a 24.79% YOY volume decrease from 20 scheduled vessels during the week of November 16, 2025. For the week of November 23, volume is projected to increase 9.46% YOY from 22 scheduled vessels moving 111,757 TEUs.
