Small Parcel Updates:
- Canada Post Issues: Canada Post continues limited operations under rotating strikes, with localized delays nationwide as negotiations with the Canadian Union of Postal Workers remain unresolved. A committee has been formed to review the dispute. Service guarantees remain suspended while the union intensifies pressure over working conditions and ongoing reforms.
LTL Updates:
- Brand Unification: AAA Cooper Transportation announced that, effective on January 1, 2026, Midwest Motor Express and DHE Transportation will unify and operate under the AAA Cooper brand (ACT). Administrative and financial systems integrations were already completed earlier this year.
- Rate Increase: Old Dominion Freight Line announced a 4.9% general rate increase effective November 3, 2025, applying to its 559, 670, and 550 tariffs. The increase is due to rising costs in real estate, equipment, technology, and employee compensation. Customer specific pricing is not impacted by this increase.
- Diesel Rates: National diesel prices decreased by $0.045 from last week, averaging $3.620 per gallon, which is $0.067 higher than last year. The Rocky Mountain region saw the largest decrease, down $0.073 from last week to $3.585 per gallon.
TL Updates:
- Market Activity: Spot load posts are down 4.4% from last week, and spot truck posts decreased by 1.4%. The Load-to-Truck Ratio (LTR) was down for vans and flatbeds while up for reefers.
- Outbound Tender Rejection Index (OTRI): The OTRI increased this week with all modes showing gains. The OTRI currently sits at 6.11, up from last week’s 5.88.
- Dry Van: National van demand decreased by 4.5% to a 5.77-1 LTR nationally, with the highest demand spread across most the United States, other than CA, IL, MI, NE and the Southeastern States, exceeding 5.5+ to 1 LTR. The spot rate per mile (RPM) for dry vans is up $0.02 from September, averaging $2.07 nationally, with the Midwest holding the highest RPM at $2.25. VOTRI had a small upward bump this week, continuing to climb. The VOTRI is at 5.64, up from last week’s value of 5.51.
- Flatbed: National flatbed demand decreased by 7.4% to a 24.5-1 LTR, with the highest demand in the West, the Southeastern States, parts of New England, IN, MT, SD, and WY at over 18+ to 1 LTR. The flatbed spot RPM is up $0.01 from September, averaging $2.52 nationally, with the Southeast holding the highest RPM at $2.71. FOTRI saw a small rebound following a week of decreases. The FOTRI increased to 10.92, up from last week’s value of 10.11.
- Reefer: National reefer demand increased by 6.9% to a 11.03-1 LTR nationally, with the highest demand in the Midwest and Western states, AR, CO, IN, ME, MI, MT, NM and lower New England at over 12+ to 1 LTR. The spot RPM for reefers is up $0.04 from September, averaging $2.48 nationally, with the highest rates in the Midwest at $2.80. ROTRI spiked one and a half points this week. The ROTRI currently sits at 15.36 compared to last week’s value of 13.82.
International Updates:
- FBX Trends: Container rates were up from last week with the average cost of an FBX01 container up 18% to $1,687, and the FBX global container average up 8% to $1,663. The FBX03 increased 2% from last week to $3,071.
- Port of LA: The port reported a 4.70% YOY volume decrease from 22 scheduled vessels during the week of October 19, 2025. For the week of October 26, volume is projected to increase 1.75% YOY, with 16 scheduled vessels moving 80,672 TEUs.
